Love Haight Records Artist: Brod Rob

Artist Bio: Brod Rob

Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Brod Rob began playing guitar at the age of 12, and songwriting very shortly after. After getting his toes wet at open mics in Pittsburgh and Wheeling, West Virginia, Brod Rob moved to Gunnison, Colorado to pursue music. Within a month, he helped form the early version of a legendary local electro-rock group called “Redhouse.” The band gained moderate success with their knack for danceable live shows and over the next few years had gained a fan base throughout Colorado and the west.

Eager to take things to the next level, Brod Rob decided to go to an arts institute that focused on music production in an attempt to hone his production skills and expand his fan base. This led to a solo move even further west to San Francisco, California. It wasn’t long before the other members of Redhouse, Paul Oliphant (Drums) and Matthew Raymond Parker (keys/key bass) also relocated to the Bay Area to reunite with Rob.

The band toured the state of California and released a live disc under a small boutique record label, “Grow Records” based in Berkeley, CA. Immediately Rob’s unique electronic rock and reggae sound captivated audiences all over. After two long years of playing clubs and festivals, Redhouse culminated in a Colorado tour that saw them playing alongside acts such as John Popper of Blues Traveler, Mama’s Cookin’, Tea Leaf Green, and Fred Wesley of the JB’s as well as DJ Logic and Z-Trip. Afterwards, the members of Redhouse decided to go separate ways. The result of this was the debut solo album from Brod Rob entitled “Falls” which is being released as a joint effort by Grow Records and San Francisco based Independent label Love Haight Records.

Once again reunited with former Redhouse drummer Paul Oliphant (whom is currently drummer of San Francisco based bands The Afrofunk Experience and The Frail), the two men gathered a slew of musicians to record the highly anticipated solo debut. The album features appearances by Todd Holway, Steven Labella, and Zeb Early (Mama’s Cookin), James Riotto and Rob Sheldon (The Moanin Dove, John Vanderslice, Sean Hayes) and R&B phenom Nanaushika.

The Brod Rob album “Falls” is a diverse, coherent, and exhilarating album. Brod Rob is currently preparing to play shows with members of The Afrofunk Experience and Mama’s Cookin’ and is also getting fueled up to do a West Coast mini tour with dates all over California, Nevada, Oregon, and Colorado.

Another turn of the year

Another turn of the year – another decade – out of the oughts and into 2011 – so what does your crystal ball hold in store for the next year?  Riches? Love? A Job? that dude on your couch finally finding a place… or at least different couch of his own? Maybe that custom inside out handblown pinched tip Sherlock? Or maybe universal healthcare? (good luck on that one unless you are planning to move to Canada). I always like to ponder the coming year when it’s fresh and young and not yet defiled but still brooding with all that can be… well at least I ponder it after my head has recovered from the annual year end massive brain cell eve of destruction…

If you weren’t at the (unofficial) Love Haight New Year’s party you truly missed out!  The label staff, artists, friends, and family all managed to turn our end of the year into a 2 day jam fest/dance party with home bar/smoke out/hot tubbing/crazy hella of a weekend.  Truly a coming together… melding of minds kinda event ~ which just beckons to scream out just how fabulously glorious this new year we are now in will be.

For the label it’s truly  going to be our breakout year.  Dropping very soon is the debut Brod Rob album “Fall’s.”  Zoology will see the long awaited release of their debut album.  Many live shows and many events. Singles from all the label’s artists will be included on a Love Haight Records compilation disc late this summer.  And the label has a few new artists that we’ll be introducing to you over the next two months (hint 2 are lovely ladies with equally as lovely voices). Not to even mention the round of label staff birthdays hitting in January and February.

But most important of all is label artist Macabre Improv’s newly born son Gabriel Bernard, who will be seeing his 1st birthday in 2011!  (and congrats to Tia as well!!!).  Let me tell you the kid is gonna break a few girls hearts in his day.  On behalf of all the label we can’t wait for you 3 to all come back to the Bay!!!!

What are some of the things you are looking forward to in this new year?

What are you hoping, wanting, wishing, thriving for?

Leave us some comments on the blog, Facebook, or write us a message on the website – and tell us what you have to say about 2011 – cause last year… was last year… we live in this year… so let’s live a good one!
